On March 26, Marvell announced an innovative chipset solution based on NVMExpress (NVMe) designed to accelerate application time-optimized data center SSDs. As a leading fabless semiconductor company, Marvell established its China headquarters in Zhangjiang in 2010.

The rapid growth of new technologies such as cloud services and artificial intelligence and machine learning is driving the growth of various workloads in the data center. These evolving and expanding workloads may have different storage needs, and future SSDs need to address these needs. challenge. Marvell has developed an innovative NVMe chipset that supports larger enterprise data storage interfaces (EDSFF), next-generation small interfaces (NGSFF), and a variety of custom interfaces. These new, multi-functional building blocks are optimally satisfied. The storage needs of current and emerging workloads in terms of capacity, latency, performance, power and cost can provide a tailored SSD solution for specific cloud and enterprise workloads.

Take the Marvell 88NR2241 intelligent NVMe switch chip, which allows the data center to aggregate and manage resources between multiple NVMe SSD controllers and workload accelerators. By using integrated virtual capabilities to deliver high-quality services and predictable storage performance, you can enhance your experience with high dynamic load in applications such as multi-tenancy, virtualized clouds, and enterprise data centers.

With up to 6.4GB/s throughput and up to 1.6M IOPS per second, the 88NR2241 delivers the best workload efficiency in terms of power, performance and cost with the industry's most flexible SSD architecture.

Two new products under NANDEdge LDPC error correction technology

The 88SS1098 and 88SS1088 are Marvell's new PCIe Gen3x4 NVMe SSD controllers that support single-port and dual-port functionality, NVMe 1.3 standards, and open channel architecture. Both controllers use Marvell's fourth-generation NANDEdge LDPC error correction technology to support the latest 3D TLC and QLC NAND, extending the life of SSDs while maintaining the best latency and performance consistency in their class. These controllers feature Marvell's highly advanced and proven System-on-Chip (SoC) processor architecture for throughput up to 3.6 GB/s and random read IOPS up to 800k, supporting up to 16 NAND channels and 16 GB DRAM.

Marvell's new chipsets support industry-leading 32 TB capacity for a full range of cloud and enterprise SSD solutions, including M.2, NGSFF, U.2, PCIe add-in-cards, EDSFF and custom design. These chipset architectures provide data center storage architects with new building blocks that leverage emerging storage, load accelerators, and new data center infrastructure to enable innovation and optimization of their cloud services and workloads.

Marvell's latest SSD has been praised by the industry's big coffee

â—† Nigel Alvares, vice president of Marvell SSD and data center storage solutions, said: "Cloud computing and enterprise data centers are increasingly showing a highly virtualized, multi-tenant environment that needs to support a growing number of different workloads, and Different storage requirements. To help data center operators meet the above requirements of the data center without compromising service quality and achieve scalability, Marvell uses its storage technology expertise to develop the industry's first NVMe chipset family, which is specialized. A new scalable SSD architecture solution optimized for data center workloads."

Gregory Wong, founder and principal analyst of Forward Insights, commented: "The cloud computing and enterprise data center SSDs are experiencing rapid growth, and by 2022, NVMe-based SSDs are expected to show a compound annual growth rate of 42%. Marvell Innovative NVMe chipset solutions are ready to take advantage of this growth trend and meet future needs with scalable, more efficient, best-in-class building blocks for data centers."

◆ Darlo Perez, General Manager, Americas, LITEON Storage Strategy Business Unit, said: “LITEON and Marvell have long been collaborating to deliver innovative SSD storage solutions, such as the new NVRAM hybrid drive we announced at OCP 2018. This latest SSD is A good example of how the Marvell NVMe chipset and LITEON's storage system expertise can be integrated to help customers address emerging cloud services and data center challenges."

According to Hiroo Ohta, technical executive of Toshiba Memory Corporation, "Marvell has a long-term relationship with Toshiba Storage to jointly implement emerging SSD solutions. With the expansion of NAND technology, Marvell's NANDEdge technology and related chips The group will be an important solution to meet the latest data center SSD workload requirements."

It is understood that Marvell has demonstrated its new NVMe chipset solution for data center SSDs at the 2018 OCP US Summit (OCP US Summit 2018) in San Jose, California, March 20-21. These Marvell chipsets are available now.
