Market research firm Gartner Inc. recently released its latest report, raising expectations for semiconductor equipment capital expenditures in 2007, but spending expectations in 2008 have fallen.
According to the report, the total capital expenditure of the semiconductor industry in 2007 is expected to reach 57.1 billion US dollars, an increase of 1.5% over 2006; in 2008, the data will fall 4.4% to 54.6 billion US dollars.
Global semiconductor equipment capital expenditures in 2007 are estimated at $43.7 billion, an increase of 4.1% from 2006; in 2008, this expenditure is expected to be $43.8 billion, an increase of only 0.3%.
The forecast data in this report is different from the report released by Gartner in July. The expected total value of semiconductor industry capital expenditure in 2007 and 2008 was $56.6 billion and $59.3 billion, respectively, while the semiconductor equipment capital expenditure value. Gartner's report states:
