However, in the 2017 Clarity, all the components previously placed under the hood were tilted forward by 90 degrees, so that smaller fuel cells could be placed horizontally between these components and the FCVCU. Although the lithium battery pack is still placed under the front seats, the volume has been achieved to almost no effect on the height of the seat. More importantly, after a series of structural simplifications, the current Clarity can sit as many as five people in a family car, instead of four on the old Clarity and Toyota Mirai.
