On the Tiananmen Gate, there are 8 gongs of the red palace lanterns. The opening ceremony of the giant palace lanterns is from the hands of Japanese painters.

As is known to all, at the founding ceremony on October 1, 1949, there were 8 red lanterns hanging on the Tiananmen Gate. These red palace lanterns and gorgeous long tassels rejuvenate Tiananmen Square, a 500-year-old ancient tower. What is less well known is that they came from the hands of two Japanese painters.

Received tasks 20 days before the founding ceremony

In the golden autumn of 1949, the founding of the People's Republic of China was held in Tiananmen Square. The rostrum is the Tiananmen Gate, and Zhou Enlai handed over the task of arranging the tower to the North China Military Region.

Subsequently, Zhang Zhixiang, Minister of Propaganda Department of the Political Department of the North China Military Region, went on a car reconnaissance. Ten years ago, Zhang Zhixiang worked underground in Beiping (formerly known as Beijing), but he did not expect that the Tiananmen Gate of the park was so ruined. Several small and broken hexagonal lanterns were so dirty that they could not see the color. . The wall is rolled, the bricks are eroded, the weeds on the wall are swaying in the wind, and the ground is covered with thick carpets of pigeon dung. It seems that this is not a small project.

At this time, there were only 20 days left from the founding ceremony. Zhang Zhixiang rushed to the resident of the Political Work Group of the Political Department of the North China Military Region. Su Fan, the captain of the Wushu Dance Team, was not in a hurry because he had secret weapons.

Su Fan’s secret weapon is two Japanese painters, Onodera and Mori. Ono is 40 years old, and Senmao is in his early 30s. They graduated from the Japanese Academy of Fine Arts. The long-term practice of stage art creation has made both of them skillful, especially Ono Aya, and a first-class artist.

Ono’s father was a worker from JR Ishikawa. Because of his poor family, Ono was young and thin, and he decided to become a painter. At the age of 19, Ono read the "Crab Boat" of Japanese left-wing writer Kobayashi Dorje, and participated in the Japanese Proletarian Artists League. While painting oil paintings and comics, he also painted posters and slogans, and he was quickly called a talent. In 1938, Ono and others founded the Tokyo Manga Institute. Because the Japanese fascist suppressed the left, he was arrested six times. In 1939, Ono came to Beiping, China, as the editor of North China Transportation Magazine Xingya. Later, after the introduction of the famous Japanese cartoonist Ji Mihong, he first worked as an editor in the editorial department of Beijing Manga and later in North China Film.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in 1945, Ono decided to stay in China. He came to Zhangjiakou in the Liberated Area and became the pillar of the anti-enemy drama club. He served as the dance design of the opera "White-haired Girl". This is the first time in the big city after the opera "White-haired Girl" left Yan'an. Xiaoye painted a huge poster with a height of 3 meters and a width of 4 meters. He also painted other posters and got "Jincha The Daily News is highly praised.

Senmao came to Dandong, China at the age of 14 and decided to stay in China because he worshiped Ono. In June 1946, Sen Mao was transferred to the drawing department of Limin Advertising Company under the Jinchaji Daily, during which he designed the trademark of Baimao Women's Cigarette.

In February 1949, Ono followed the film team of the Political Department of the North China Military Region in Beiping. Senmao followed the head of the Yuzhong Tobacco Factory to Shijiazhuang. When he was advertising for the cinema in Ono, he received a letter from Ono, and he also came to Peking. In April, the anti-enemy drama club was changed to the Political Work Group of the Political Department of the North China Military Region. It was divided into drama, song and dance, military music, stage art and other teams. Su Fan served as the captain of the dance team. The two Japanese painters were his capable cadres.

In November 1949, the Political Work Group of the Political Department of the North China Military Region rehearsed the play of the playwright Hu Ke, "Growing in the Battle", and Ono and Senmao were responsible for the design of the dance. In 1956, "Growing in the Battle" won the first prize of the first national drama drama performance, and its beauty design was adopted by many cultural groups throughout the country. Ono also and Senmao designed the North China Liberation Medal issued by the North China Military Region.

According to Su Fan's recollection: Ono and Senmao's art is very deep, they are serious about each design, often draw more than a dozen, dozens of sketches, and then choose the final draft. Moreover, they personally experienced the liberation war in China. Whether in the remote mountain villages of western Yunnan or in the plains of central Guizhou, wherever they went, the small sketchbooks were filled with various sketches. They are undoubtedly the best people in the setting ceremony of the Tiananmen Gate in the founding ceremony. Because Ono and Mori are similar to the Chinese, many people who participated in the preparations for the founding ceremony did not know that there were two Japanese painters in uniforms.
