On March 1, 2011, Analog Analog Technologies, Inc., an analog semiconductor company focused on providing power innovation solutions for the consumer, industrial and communications markets, introduced the 31mA single-channel LED boost driver AAT14XX series, which drives a string of Up to 10 LEDs. The drive's small form factor and quiet operation make it an ideal LED backlight solution for single-cell Li-Ion battery devices, including larger screen phones and smartphones, MP3 players, portable media players (PMPs) and portable Navigation device class application.

The AAT14XX family supports larger displays for higher efficiency and filtered pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming to reduce radio interference in cell phones and other handheld devices. With a 1.15 x 1.55 mm wafer-level package (WLCSP) size, the AAT14XX requires only 0.7 cm2 of space on a printed circuit board, making it one of the smallest solutions on the market.

Roger Smullen, Director of Strategic Marketing at AnalogicTech, said: "The best backlight power management needs and features are evolving as the LED market evolves. The AAT14XX family brings one of the smallest LED serial driver solutions to the market, strengthening our handheld devices. A portfolio of products that add new features to our complex LED products, and our LED products are rapidly reaching a wide range of end products from handheld devices to tablets to televisions."

LED brightness control can be done in one of three ways: 32-level dimming with S2CwireTM interface and filtering with PWM control or direct dimming. The 100 KHz PWM dimming frequency reduces audible noise and is compatible with Content Adaptive Brightness Control (CABC) to further reduce backlight power consumption by up to 50%.

The primary source of power consumption in portable systems with displays is the backlighting in liquid crystal display (LCD) screens. The AAT14XX family solves this problem with three dimming controls and an integrated precision high-voltage current mirror that can flexibly adjust the LED current from 10mA to 31mA without regard to the number of LEDs in series. This method achieves 88% efficiency and is much more efficient than traditional LED drivers using ballast resistors.

The AAT14XX family consists of four parts: at 31 mA, the AAT1410, AAT1401, AAT1402, and AAT1403 can drive up to four, six, eight, and ten series LEDs, respectively. These devices support a voltage input range of 2.7 - 5.5 V, including over temperature protection, programmable overvoltage protection, LED open circuit protection, and automatic recovery after fault resolution. The AAT14XX series is available in a 10-pin WLCSP package that is 80% smaller than the SOT23 package and 55% smaller than the 2 x 2 QFN package. The range of operating temperatures ranges from -40°C to +85°C.

Welding Diode

Welding diodes are available for medium frequency (over 2KHz) and high frequency (over 10khz) applications. They have very low on - state voltage and thermal resistance. Welding diodes are designed for medium and high frequency welding equipment and optimized for high current rectifiers. The on-state voltage is very low and the output current is high.
