Q3 smartphone sells 115 million Samsungs over Nokia

According to foreign media reports, according to market research firm Gartner said on Tuesday, Samsung Electronics overtook Nokia to become the world's largest smartphone manufacturer in the third quarter of this year.

Gartner's data counts the number of mobile phones sold to end-users rather than the number of individual mobile phone manufacturers. Gartner said that Samsung Electronics sold 24 million smart phones in the third quarter, while Nokia's smart phone sales were 19.5 million.

In the third quarter of this year, the number of mobile phones sold globally to end users was 440.5 million, an increase of 5.6% year-on-year. Among them, sales of smartphones were 115 million.

In the third quarter, the ratio of smartphone sales to total handset sales increased from 25% in the second quarter to 26%.

Gartner said that in the third quarter, the Android operating system accounted for 52.5% of the smartphones sold to end users, and its market share more than doubled. Nokia's Symbian OS accounted for 16.9% of the smartphone market, down from 36.3% in the same period of last year and 22.1% in the second quarter of this year.

Apple iOS is the third-generation smartphone operating system. Its market share in the third quarter decreased from 16.6% in the same period last year to 15%.
