Semtech's first 10-channel white LED driver, the SC442, is available with a 3A boost power switch. The SC442 is an extension of the Supreme SC44x family of LED drivers . It is a lead-free, halogen-free product that is fully RoHS compliant and suitable for large LCD backlight applications. The LED driver is packaged in an ultra-small, ultra-thin 4x4x0.6mm 28-pin MLPQ package that can drive up to 120 LEDs with up to 30mA per channel. The input voltage range is 4.5V~21V, and it can be used with lithium-ion battery pack or 5V, 12V or 18V regulated power supply. The SC442 can output up to 42V and drive up to 12 white LEDs per channel. The component is compatible with a boost or SEPIC (boost/buck) topology. In addition, when the input voltage is greater than the output voltage, it can be seamlessly converted to bypass or linear mode. Its synchronization feature eliminates intermodulation noise that occurs in backlight systems with multiple drivers. Other features include overheating, overload, LED open circuit protection, and configurable LED short circuit protection. PWM dimming methods up to 50kHz eliminate audible noise problems. The internal DC-DC current mode controller dynamically maintains the optimum LED output voltage. For smaller panel designs, each channel can also be turned off independently. The driver provides LED open circuit protection, configurable LED short circuit protection, and overtemperature protection. The controller's switching frequency can be set from 200kHz to 1MHz for optimum efficiency and L/C filtering size.
