Toshiba announced the launch of a new analog output IC optocoupler for high-speed communication in automotive applications, particularly electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs).

The new TLX9309 includes a high output GaAlAs light emitting diode (LED) optically coupled to a high speed detector. The detector includes a photodiode and a transistor integrated into a single chip. In addition, the TLX9309 integrates a Faraday shield on the photodetector chip to achieve enhanced common mode transient rejection of typically up to 15kV/μs, which is one of the important parameters in automotive electrical noise environments.

The product uses separate photodiodes and amplifying transistors to reduce the collector capacitance and thus reduce the transmission delay, making the open collector type TLX9309 transfer faster than the transistor output type. In fact, the transmission delay time is stable between 0.1μs and 1.0μs, where the high-to-low transition and the low-to-high transition delay time difference (|tpLH-tpHL|) are not higher than 0.7μs, so the device is suitable for inverter High-speed communication applications such as device control or intelligent power module (IPM) interfaces.

Electrically, the device provides safe isolation with an isolation voltage of 3750Vrms and a creepage distance and clearance of 5.0mm. It operates from a DC range of -0.5 to 30V with currents up to 25mA at output voltages up to 20V. The current transfer ratio is 15-300%.

The TLX9309 is available in a RoHS-compliant 3.7mm x 7.0mm x 2.2mm 5-lead SO6 package and operates over the -40°C to +125°C temperature range. The device is AEC-Q101 certified for automotive applications.
