Acquisition of Toshiba Flash Terry Goo: Apple Support Behind Me

According to sources, Foxconn was the highest bidder among the five interested buyers.

Recently, in an exclusive interview with the Nikkei Asia Review website, Terry Goh, chairman of Foxconn Technology Group, stated that Foxconn has obtained financial support from Apple and Amazon on the acquisition of Toshiba’s flash memory business.

Toshiba is an important supplier of flash memory to Apple. The news that the company wanted to sell the flash business shares has just been reported, which has aroused the interest of many companies. According to sources, Foxconn was the highest bidder among the five interested buyers, and the purchase price it allegedly proposed exceeded US$18.2 billion.

Terry Gou said that Apple and Amazon will provide funds for the acquisition, but the specific amount of funds provided by each company can not be disclosed. Although there have been rumors previously that Apple and Amazon may be interested in Toshiba's flash memory business, Gou's comments are the first confirmation that the two companies will participate in this bid.

Up to now, Apple has refused to comment on this matter, and Amazon has not responded immediately. The other four companies will bid for the bidding team composed of American chip maker Broadcom, American private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Toshiba chip business partner Western Digital, South Korea SK Hynix and US private equity firm Bain Capital.
