Waste heat boiler is one of the indispensable equipments of copper smelting plant. It can not only recover secondary energy in high temperature flue gas, reduce flue gas temperature, but more importantly, collect soot in high temperature flue gas, recover precious metals and reduce smoke. The dust content of the gas ensures the smooth flow of the process system and creates favorable conditions for the tail process. In the 1960s, the emergence of flash smelting technology promoted the development of waste heat boilers, which solved problems such as ash, corrosion and wear. The metallurgical furnaces used in copper smelters mainly include: flash furnace, converter, anode furnace, etc. As the volume of flue gas changes greatly during the production process of metallurgical furnace, the content of S2 and soot in flue gas is high. Therefore, in order to make the waste heat boiler work under such harsh conditions, it is necessary to start from the design of the waste heat boiler, adapt to the flue gas conditions as much as possible, and meet the process requirements. Table 1 lists the flue gas conditions of the Tongling Jinlong smelter.
Table 1 Metallurgical flue gas contains SO24S dust. The temperature gauge and the soot content are high, the flue gas volume fluctuates greatly, the flue gas temperature is high, and the soot contains a highly cohesive metal. In order to prevent dust accumulation, a straight-through waste heat boiler is often used.
The waste heat boiler can be divided into three types according to the water circulation mode: natural circulation type, forced circulation type and combination of the two. Which type is used can be determined according to the nature of the flue gas, the location of the inlet, the type of arrangement and the method of cleaning. The comparison is shown in Table 2.
