Strategy AnalyTIcs' latest report "2016 Automotive Semiconductor Manufacturers Market Share" shows that NXP has reached 14.2% market share in the $27.4 billion automotive semiconductor market, compared to its largest competitors Infineon and Renesas (Renesas) is four percentage points higher. The report also found that the main source of revenue for semiconductor manufacturers changed from Japan to China for the first time, which means the global automotive electronics industry structure transformation.

In 2015, NXP, a major supplier of automotive semiconductors, acquired its rival Freescale. According to Strategy AnalyTIcs, the combined company achieved sales of $3.9 billion in 2015, accounting for 14.2% of the total market. In addition, Infineon ranked second with a market share of 10.4%, and Renesas (ranked first in 2014) ranked third with a 10.3% share.

Demand for automotive-grade semiconductors continues to grow, primarily due to application drivers such as ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), display-based in-vehicle infotainment systems, advanced drive trains, and wireless connectivity. However, in 2015, vendors generally faced short-term exchange rate fluctuations and supply chain barriers, which had a negative impact on revenue growth.

According to Chris Webber, vice president of global automotive business at Strategy AnalyTIcs, "Although global automotive production is growing in 2015 and penetration of automotive electronics continues to increase, automotive semiconductor manufacturers face multiple challenges in dollar-denominated revenue growth, especially The yen and the euro are extremely weak. The total income of NXP after the merger has increased, and the impact of negative exchange rate fluctuations is smaller than its biggest competitor, which is undoubtedly attributed to Freescale. This is because Freescale used to have about three points. One's automotive business comes directly from the North American market, while Infineon and Renesas' revenues from North America account for only 17% and 12%, respectively.

Webber added: "China has accounted for 26% of the global light vehicle manufacturing share, but the gradual expansion of localized automotive electronics manufacturing has made semiconductor manufacturers' revenue in China more than the mature Japanese market."
